Supporting a growing and dynamic industry

- Australia’s power needs continue to grow with more than 1400 MW of additional generation is required every year to meet our growing power demand;
- Wholesale power prices are rising, reflecting growing demand, water constraints on generators and carbon pricing;
- All political parties now recognise the need for significant reductions in greenhouse emissions are we now have bipartisan support for the introduction of emissions trading by 2011;
- There is now also commitment to a significant extension of the Mandatory Renewable Energy Target which will see a significant increase in renewable energy projects being implemented in Australia over the next 5 to 10 years;
- There is currently a broad suite of government policies and programs supporting sustainable energy. This has created what might appear to be a  complex “patchwork” of regulations and policies across Australia that support our industry.

The Sustainable Energy Industry

Sustainable energy includes: renewable power generation, Solar hot water, PV, energy efficiency and gas fired generation (specifically cogeneration and distributed generation) – GEC will cover all aspects of SE and all aspects of energy, greenhouse and carbon markets.  In Australia Sustainable power generation presently accounts for 24% of electricity generation. The contribution of demand side technologies such as solar, energy efficiency and cogeneration represents the equivalent of 36 GWh/a or equivalent to 15% of Australia’s electricity generation.

Sustainable energy has a critical role to play in Meeting Australia’s growing demand for energy. Australia’s sustainable energy industry has been growing at between 15 to 20% per annum over the last 5 years. In order to deliver on current government policies our industry will need to grow at more than double or triple this rate. This means that more than $2.5 billion per annum of capital will need to be channelled into our sector as it grows to deliver on existing government programs.

The prospects for sustainable energy in Australia have never been better.  Green Energy Capital is committed to assisting Australia’s sustainable energy business grow and take advantage of the emerging opportunities and developments.
